Roadside Notes

Scene-building ideas, scale guides and what is coming off the print bed.

Everything here is written by the person who designs the pieces, prints them and sands the seams off by hand — so it is less a blog than a set of answers to the questions that keep arriving. Three things get written about, and nothing much else.

01

Scale guides

The measurements nobody prints on the box. How long a die-cast car really is, what 1:64 and 1:55 look like standing next to each other, and which pieces sit right beside them. Start here if you have ever ordered something that turned out half an inch too tall.

02

Scene-building

How a bare shelf turns into somewhere. What belongs on the horizon, what fills the middle distance, and how much empty space a scene needs before it stops looking crowded. Most of it was learned by getting it wrong first.

03

Off the print bed

What is being designed, what failed, and what is about to appear in the shop. Colours shift a little between batches because every piece is finished by hand — this is where that gets explained rather than apologised for.
